Many philosophers wonder – What’s the meaning of life? – but only some dare to ask themselves the question of all questions. The question that has bothered humanity for centuries. This ultimate question should have risen in fact around 15 centuries ago when the English language started to be formed.

“Why the heck do we call an ananas a pineapple?" we all still wonder. The following story is told by one Kevin Quiec, an explorer and digital nomad considered a philosopher of the 21st century. He has discovered and is willing to share the actual phases of growth of Azorean “ananases”.

If you like to read:

“Usually, the pineapple comes from the sky. They’re brought by birds traveling around and they grow up out of nowhere. That’s what happened here as well, in the Azores. They fell from the sky and they grew up. They are like a virus spreading around and multiplying like bad grass. Then the people working here try to burn this grass and apply the smoke as they don’t like the grass, so they try to burn it. But then like a Phoenix, it gets reborn out of this fire, and “ananas” is created. This process is very fast, it takes only up to eight days to grow an ananas.”

Of course, this story is not real, it's meant to entertain while we were bored during our plantation visit. In fact, it takes around 2 years to grow pineapples fully. If you want to learn more about the process of growing Azorean pineapples (ananases), check out this Instagram post.
